The James family – more specifically, LeBron James and Bronny James – had quite an exciting weekend!
First, on Saturday night, the LA Lakers claimed their first championship of the season and LeBron James was named MVP. Next up – Bronny James’ first appearance at USC after recovering from a heart attack nearly five months ago.
Good news? LeBron didn’t have to miss a Lakers game to watch his firstborn in action during his exciting debut.

Bronny, 19, who played for Sierra Canyon in high school, became one of the nation’s best players and a 4-star McDonald’s All-American.
USC head basketball coach Andy Enfield told reporters after Bronny’s first full contact practice on Thursday that he had a good practice.
“Today was the first day he practiced contact. He looks good,” Enfield said. “He needs to get his timing back and get game shape, but I think today was a good first day.”
Bronny suffered a heart attack on July 24 while training with his team. He was rushed to the hospital and released a few days later. Doctors later revealed the heart attack was caused by a treatable congenital heart defect. He was cleared to make a full return to basketball in late November.
“He’s been working out for some time without contact,” Enfield said. “So, he’s been doing cardio, weight training, and some shooting. He has been able to do individual exercises. We are happy with his progress.”

Ahead of Sunday’s USC game, LeBron, 38, had an interesting Saturday night as the Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers in the first championship game of the season 123-109. LeBron had 24 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists and was named MVP.
The Lakers went undefeated during the tournament in the season, beating the Phoenix Suns twice, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Portland Trail Blazers, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Utah Jazz, and the Pacers.

During the trophy ceremony, LeBron told ESPN’s Malika Andrews that he had “no one to top” that the Lakers were champions in their first season.
“I don’t think it’s even about the MVP. It’s about you coming together to win this,” he said. “Records will be broken, but one thing that will never be broken is being the first to do something. And we’re the first tournament champion of the season, and nobody can top that, and it’s great to do it with a historic franchise and just a great cast that’s funny, involved, competitive here.”
LeBron recently announced that if Bronny had his debut on the same day as a Lakers game, he would miss the Lakers game. With Bronny playing the day after the final game of the season, LeBron doesn’t have to miss the Lakers game.
“Whenever he’s out and whenever he’s ready to play his first game, I’ve told my teammates that if they play the same day we play, then I have to catch them the next game,” LeBron said. “Family trumps everything, champion.”
The Lakers return to regular season action on December 12 when they take on the Dallas Mavericks.
