Brooke Shields opens up about her two daughters’ reactions to the upcoming Hulu documentary “Pretty Baby.”

Our teenage years can be quite traumatic. Shields would know this to be true; the actress rose to fame in her early teens after starring in two films that required her to be completely nude on screen, and also faced scrutiny following her Calvin Klein jeans campaign, which was shot before she could legally drive.
The “Endless Love” actor’s rise to fame will be examined in an upcoming documentary for Hulu, which shares a title with the 1978 film that shot Shields to stardom.
Shields’ two daughters, Grier and Rowan, believed they were well informed about their own mother’s teenage years, but both were shocked when they watched the documentary for the first time.

Stephanopoulos’ production company, BedBy8, the journalistic publishing company he shares with his wife, Alexandria Wentworth, produced an intimate look at Shields’ life. The actor gave the couple access to his personal archive for the documentary, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
“Beautiful Baby: Brooke Shields” largely revolves around the cultural and media treatment of Shields when she rose to fame in the early ’80s. According to an ABC News report on the documentary, the documentary will chronicle Shields’ “journey in the public eye, holding up a mirror to a society that ‘scorns women and girls.’ (via The Blast)

A dark side of the rapid rise to fame? Many people feel entitled to celebrities, and do whatever they can to have a piece of them, many times without their consent.
Shields, now 57, detailed that she was raped in her twenties during the promotional circuit for the documentary. The tragic event will be discussed in “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.”
According to our report on the matter, Shields was taken advantage of by a man she knew from Princeton, and he was trusted to help her find a job after she had trouble landing a role.
The “Blue Lagoon” actress revealed that fear had taken over during the horrific moment. He told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m afraid I’m going to choke or something” if he tries to escape. “So I didn’t fight much. I do not. I was completely frozen. I thought one ‘no’ should have been enough, and I just thought, ‘Stay alive and get out,’ and I just shut it down. God knows I know how to be separated from my body,” he continued. “I practiced that… I went down to the elevator, and I got my own cab. I just cried the whole way to my friend’s apartment…”

“Beautiful Baby: Brooke Shields” certainly takes the serious subject of the “Suddenly Susan” actress’ time in the spotlight.
Shields’ daughter, who she shares with her husband, Chris Henchy, was shocked when they saw the documentary for the first time. She detailed to People during a recent red carpet appearance how Grier and Rowan had been surprised by the film’s incredible honesty.
“…There was a lot in the documentary that they didn’t know about that got me in trouble with them because they were upset that I didn’t tell them everything,” Shields told the outlet. It is not clear at this writing if Shields is referring to the aforementioned anecdote.
“But needless to say, it opened up some other conversations,” she told People.
The conversation about the media’s treatment of Shields was revisited in the second half of 2022. In particular, the treatment in the late pioneer newscaster Barbara Walters gave Shields during an interview in the early 80s. Shields was 16 at the time.
In the interview, Walters asked Shields invasive questions about her body. While discussing the experience with Drew Barrymore during an appearance on her talk show, the two actors recalled how Walters had asked both of their teenagers harsh and inappropriate questions.
Last week, Shields announced on Instagram that “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields” will be released on Hulu on April 3rd!
