Bruce Bochy was born in Bussac-Forêt on April 16, 1955, to Sergeant Major Gus Bochy and Melrose Bochy. Bruce and his family went on an exciting journey that took them to many locations, including the Panama Canal Zone and South Carolina, before settling in Melbourne.
Bochy graduated from Melbourne High School and was a member of the school’s baseball team, where he shared the field with Darrell Hammond, known for his work on Saturday Night Live.

Bochy was hospitalized again in 2016 for an abnormal heartbeat and underwent cardioversion surgery, which caused him to miss a game. After experiencing discomfort, he underwent a mild cardiac ablation. He underwent another ablation treatment after the playing season. Bruce underwent back surgery, two hip replacements, and a knee replacement in addition to heart surgery.
