Damar Hamlin has returned to the football field five months after he suffered a horrific heart attack.
A Buffalo Bills player had a medical crisis during Monday Night Football’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, immediately receiving life-saving CPR from an assistant athletic trainer. Despite getting the go-ahead from doctors to return to football last month, his coach has revealed that the 25-year-old is still taking things “one day at a time” as he continues to monitor his progress.
Buffalo Bill Takes Slow Hamlin Resin Recovery
Although he did not participate in team sessions, Hamlin was seen stretching and doing individual drills on Tuesday at the Buffalo Bills’ Organized Team Activities (OTAs). Just before he was seen on the practice field, Sean McDermott — the Bills’ head coach — had specified during the media briefing that day:
“We’re just going to continue to take it one day at a time and support Damar in every way possible.”

He also mentioned that the safety was “in the building working” and not training with the rest of his team – this was before he was seen on the field. McDermott’s speech was shared via Twitter, along with writing:
“We went live with Coach McDermott as he met with the media before practice at One Bills Drive. #GoBills | #BillsDrive.”
The update received hundreds of likes, and several comments, with this netizen claiming, “Need him. The Dolphins’ best chance to win the division is McDermott making the decision.”
After his release on April 18, Hamlin told his fans and football lovers that he plans to return soon. According to The Blast, he wrote, “This event changed my life, but it is not the end of my story. I’m here to announce that I plan to return to the NFL.”
The announcement unexpectedly drew mixed responses, with some celebrating his impending return and others worried about the impact his comeback would have.
“Don’t rush recovery. Nothing is worth more than your well-being- not even millions of dollars or pressure from fans and others. God bless. Peace,” commented a fan. Another concerned person said, “The season is still months away. I’m sure he’ll take it easy at first and talk to his training and medical staff.”
A third fan typed, “As a fellow Heart Club member, good luck! My thoughts are with you!” and the fourth asked, “Can you wear the steel breastplate, please? I’m worried about you, but I wish you the best!”

On the other hand, one netizen wrote, “You are truly amazing, and I wish you nothing but success,” while another said, “You go young! You are truly a miracle! Go and do what great! God got you!” “Congratulations. Thoughts and prayers for you and your continued success. God bless,” another tweeted.
Central Catholic High School Alum Honored By NFL
The National Football League honored Hamlin and the amazing medical team that saved his life ahead of this year’s Super Bowl. During that time, Bills legend Jim Kelly and “Abbott Elementary” actress Sheryl Lee Ralph asked the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals medical staff to join them on stage before they asked NFL pros to join them.
After taking over the microphone, he began his speech by thanking “God for being here.” She highlighted her fascination that her experience can inspire individuals “all over the country and the world” to spread love, pray, and “keep fighting no matter what.” Hamlin then stated:
“Sudden cardiac arrest is not something I would choose to be part of my story. But that’s because sometimes, our own vision is too small. My vision is to play in the NFL and be the best player I can be. But God’s plan is to have a greater purpose than any game in this world.”
After admitting he has a long road to recovery ahead of him, Hamlin revealed that it will be “easier” for people to face “their fears when you know your purpose.” He ended by thanking the team on stage with him and pulling them in for a sweet group hug.
