Bunmi Olusona Biography, Wikipedia, Age, Family, Bunmi Olusona is a Nigerian human activist and politician. He was born on the second of June 1965. He was born in Kwara State Nigeria. Bunmi Olusona is also known by the name of ‘Beyond Jordan’ among his fellow activists. Bunmi Olusona had this in their blood and when he was just a student he was a fierce Union activist since then.
He first started activism in the years 1984 and 1985 at the Kwara State College of Technology. Today this institution is known by another name The Kwara State Polytechnic. Bunmi Olusona first became president of the ‘Reformers Academy ‘. This academy was established by Osam Edim Osam who was a professor at Ibadan University. He was one of the contestants who were fighting for the president’s position.
In 1989 he was chosen president under professor Ayo Banjo who was then the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan Students Union. Bunmi Olusona then in the year 1991 became the Zonal D Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students. There was not just one but all the territory institutions present in the South West part of Nigeria.
In 1992 there were nationwide anti-SAP riots going on in which Bunmi Olusona along with other leaders of NANS was arrested unlawfully. He was detained and put a jail in with cruel criminals in a very crowded jail which is Ikoyi Prison and even in the Kirikiri maximum prison. He was arrested under decree NO 2 of 1984.

This unlawful arrest was done by former Nigerian military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida who enacted this notorious decree. At the same time, it is estimated that about two hundred Nigerians were killed and hundreds were wounded and they also detained some student activists.
Alongside other students, Bunmi Olusona was also detained. There were other well-known names like Late Barrister Bamidele Aturu Opeyemi Bamidele, Christian Akanni, Barrister Abdul Aminu Mahmud, Kayode Olatunji, Nasir Kura, and Emmanuel Nwanzu. Bunmi Olusona along with other detainees was detained for four months at the SSS detention facility at Ikoyi after which they were relocated to Kirikiri.
The problem with this detention was that there were no trials conducted. Barrister Alao Aka Bashorun fought a legal war to release Bunmi Olusona who was Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and Barrister Olisa Agbakoba led Civil Liberties Organization (CLO). Bunmi lost his important academic session during this period of his detention. In 1991 Bunmi was declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International.

Bunmi Olusona was very popular among Ibadan University students. This was due to the achievements he achieved while struggling for them. He had to go through many struggles and his struggles were not unknown to the students. He was appointed as the campaign officer for the Campaign for Democracy where he was a leading mobilize protesting against the unpopular annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election. This election was won by Chief MKO Abiola.
He was temporarily at the Civil Liberties Organization as Field Research Officer for ‘Women Rights Project’ as a field research officer. At the CLO, he also delve into the hardships of the Nigerian Railway workers who were allocated several months’ salaries. The title of the booklet is Dying in Agony.
