An upstate New York dairy company has recalled a half-gallon carton of chocolate ice cream because it may contain undeclared peanuts — just weeks after a mislabeled cookie caused the death of a professional dancer in the Big Apple.
“Byrne Dairy, Inc…is voluntarily recalling Byrne Dairy Might Finer Finer Chocolate Ice Cream in half-gallon cartons [dated] 10/4/2024 because it may contain undeclared peanuts,” read Tuesday’s announcement.
“People who are allergic to peanuts are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product,” the press release explained.
The recall was the result of consumer complaints, the company said – adding that no illness from the product had been reported.
The recall comes less than a month after professional dancer Órla Baxendale, 25, died from a severe allergic reaction to a mislabelled Vanilla Florentine cookie from grocery store Stew Leonard’s.

Baxedale, who is from the UK, was training in Connecticut when he ate the cookies, which contained a nut ingredient not disclosed on the packaging.
Her reaction was so intense that her Epi Pennya was ineffective, her loved one’s lawyer said in a statement last week.

The brand – which makes extended-life creams and half-and-half in addition to ice cream – offers “pure and simple” products from local family farms.
