Calif. nanny accused of molesting infant and sharing disturbing images of victim to man over social media

A California babysitter is facing charges for allegedly abusing an 8-month-old baby girl and posting disturbing images of the victim online — all at the behest of a man who received the photos via social media, according to authorities.

Michelle Hidalgo, 28, is accused of molesting the girl after the man asked her to do “worse and worse” things to the baby and then documented it, law enforcement said in court records obtained by the East Bay Times.

The Antioch resident was initially charged last month with seven counts of alleged “production and distribution of child pornography,” the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said in a Sept. 26 press release.

Now, he faces three more counts of molesting a child victim under the age of 10 and one count of using a minor for sex, according to charging documents filed last week.

A search warrant served on Hidalgo’s home last month led authorities to seize equipment used in the disturbing case, prosecutors said.

Hidalgo, who was a part-time nanny for the victim’s family, allegedly admitted to sharing the image and told investigators it was a “stupid” mistake she only made once, according to records reviewed by the East Bay Times.

When looking through her online account, investigators found Hidalgo allegedly had a conversation with a man who asked for more pornographic photos of the baby, the local outlet reported, citing records.

The nanny also allegedly said she would sexually abuse the child through oral sex, according to the affidavit also reported by KTVU.

Hidalgo insisted he did not molest the baby when confronted by detectives before the latest charges were dropped, the station reported. But investigators found evidence that was a lie when police checked his iCloud account, prosecutors reportedly claimed.

Officers were originally notified of alleged abuse by a social media company on Sept. 21 that sexually explicit material depicting minor children was being shared on the platform, the district attorney’s office said.

The victim’s parents said they connected with Hidalgo through Care.com and did not know him before hiring him, police said, according to the East Bay Times.

He faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted and remains in jail on $2.7 million bail.
