A California woman has been arrested for taping a fake license plate to the back of an allegedly stolen car.
The driver, Angel Rachiene Bolton 38, was arrested early Friday morning by police in Benicia, California, for handwriting the license plate number with a thick black marker on printer paper and taping it to the back of a silver Kia Rio LX.
“We know we’re not superheroes, but as far as I’m concerned this is NOT the way to beat us,” Benica PD wrote on Facebook.
“About 1 am today, one of our officers was patrolling the 5000 block of East 2nd Street when he saw this beautiful handwritten license plate on a car. A quick check of the vehicle showed that it was reported stolen out of Alameda.”
The number on the right side of the make-believe “plate” is slightly smaller than the number on the left — apparently because the artist ran out of room trying to fit it.
To make matters worse, the fake plate tag had expired.
In the upper right corner of the plate it says “JAN 2023”, where the expiry date on the actual registration sticker will be.

Bolton was arrested without incident and taken to the Solano County Jail, police said. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor possession of “unlawful equipment,”
He could not be reached for comment Saturday.
His arrest was first reported by SFGate.
A passenger, a 30-year-old man from Alameda who police did not immediately identify, was also arrested and booked for possession of a controlled substance, allegedly a narcotic pipe.
Police said the passenger had three out-of-county warrants for his arrest, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
