For some, Outlook is synonymous with email, and why not when you have everything you need to send email. Most of us have an Outlook account as our regular email partner and it is a good option to manage your work life due to many useful features.
But that doesn’t keep you in the safe zone and you may still face some errors, ‘login error’ being the most frequent. When you can’t sign in to Outlook, you have to do something with your login details, browser settings, or system settings; there may be other reasons as well.
The error message says “Something went wrong with Outlook and we can’t sign you in right now. Please try again later.”
The only good thing about this error is that you can easily fix it by applying all the troubleshooting tips that I will mention later.

“Something went wrong” with Outlook are inescapable and can surprise you at any time.

First things first, know who to blame, Microsoft or your network. Go to the Microsoft service status page to check if Outlook is working fine. If you see a ‘green check’ as in the image below, then the server is not down or if there is a ‘Red Cross’, it means there is a problem. Wait for a while for the services to be automatically restored as there is nothing you can do to fix the server issue.
The most important requirement to log in to any of the email services, including Outlook. The device you are using to sign in to your Outlook account must be connected to an active Internet connection with adequate bandwidth.
The browser you use stores a large amount of cache, cookies, and history that needs to be cleared from time to time. If you don’t, you may not be able to sign in to your Outlook account. So before trying some important solutions, try this.
Clear your browser (Chrome) data as follows and then try connecting:
- Click on the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the screen and then click on the ‘History’ option.

My problem was resolved when I reinstalled the browser. It may happen that the browser has some problems and doing a fresh installation can make you forget about the suffering. Complete removal of the browser deletes most of the browser-related files and registry entries that would otherwise be difficult to remove.
You must be wondering why reset Outlook password when you remember it. It may happen that you have recently updated your Outlook account password and have completely forgotten it. Or someone else has access to your account. Rather than guess what would have happened, it’s better to reset your password and gain access to your account. Once you have finished resetting your password, try to sign in.
If you are in the habit of using the automatic sign-in feature to log into your Outlook account, you should update your settings every time you change your password. The browser will only remember and use the old password until such time as you enter the new one manually. Or you can simply skip the automatic login method and manually log into your account by entering username and password.
Last but not least; make sure that the antivirus installed on your device does not create any obstructions to sign in to Outlook. Make sure that Outlook is not blocked in the antivirus settings. Disable the antivirus and check if that helps or you may also need to remove it completely from your device.
