A US jury sided with Cardi in a lawsuit accusing her of inappropriately using a man’s tattoo on the cover of her mixtape, “Gangsta B—ch Music, Vol. 1.” The project, released in 2016, shows an unknown man between the legs of a New York City citizen, as he drinks alcohol straight from the bottle.
After 90 minutes of deliberations, the jury dismissed the charges against Cardi B, concluding that Brophy had no evidence that the rapper, KSR Group LLC — her former management company — or Washpoppin’ — her cosmetics company, “misappropriated” her appearance on the cover.
They also found that the complaint did not prove that the “WAP” rapper or the company falsely impersonated Brophy. The father of two sued the rapper for $5 million in 2017 after his team ignored a cease-and-desist letter from his attorney regarding the cover of the mixtape and the use of his apparent back tattoo.
The trial for the suit began on October 18 in the Santa Ana court, which is located in the Central District of California. The brief hearing saw Cardi draw crowds of fans who greeted her as she walked out of the courtroom beaming on Friday.
