The New York native revealed a lot of surprising news during her sit-down interview with Jason Lee on the “Hollywood Unlocked” podcast including that she humbly blocked her own blessing.
Jason asks her why she didn’t send the super viral song, WAP for Grammy consideration and Cardi revealed she was too scared and insecure. “I need to stop letting the internet control my life,” she revealed, saying she was afraid of negative feedback.
“Because I don’t want to submit ‘WAP’ because I’m afraid if I win or if I… You know what’s crazy? The internet makes me afraid to win. That’s crazy,” he freaked out. Jason shared that he was upset with Cardi for making the decision, admitting that it took everything he had to not “jump on the phone and scream” at the musician.

The host shared how great Cardi’s success with Megan Thee Stallion was for the culture. “Because what I love about this song is that it brings two superstars together,” he recalls. The song has also attracted the attention of Conservatives who want it banned because of its meaning.
They accused the 30-year-old of turning his back on feminists and encouraging young women to act immorally because of the graphic lyrics. On the other hand, the song was so popular that it sparked a dance on social media and had all ages grinding and bending the floor (literally all ages).
Cardi shared her thoughts on Conservatives and their hatred, “When ‘WAP’ came out, the people who criticized it the most, they were like, ‘This is so bad, this is so weird’ — I don’t think it’s religious people, it’s really a lot of Republicans ,” he recalled.

It seems since the song dropped, Cardi has been defending her song and nothing she said was right. While appearing on The Kyle and Jackie O ShowCardi said of the song, “People who bash that song are usually conservative or really religious, but my thing is I grew up listening to this kind of music.”
He continued, “Other people might think it’s weird and vulgar, but to me, it’s almost normal, you know what I’m saying?” No doubt the song became a hit in its own right and although it wasn’t nominated for a Grammy, it won or was nominated for many other awards.
American Music Awards, BET Awards, three BET Hip Hop Awards, People’s Choice Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. Plus, it’s gone eight times platinum so, yeah, it’s still thriving.
Also, the music video is not what people are looking at not only because it has a weird vibe, but Cardi also enlists the likes of Kylie Jenner and Normani to appear in some sexy visuals.
