Carlee Russell’s ex-boyfriend still doesn’t know why she faked her own kidnapping, pointing out that even though the couple had a “little argument” that led to her disappearance, it was “nothing to kidnap yourself.”
While appearing last week on the 205 Boyz podcast, Thomar Latrell Simmons talked about the puzzling case that captured the nation when it dominated headlines starting in mid-July.
Simmons said she believes nothing happened between the couple to lead to Russell’s bizarre spree that began when she mysteriously disappeared shortly after calling 911 to report she found a small child on the side of a busy Alabama highway.

When the police arrived at the scene, she was gone, although her red Mercedes Benz along with her mobile phone and wig were left behind.
The 26-year-old reappeared at his parents’ home two days later, claiming he had been taken and held captive, although the story later fragmented.
Simmons, 25, said she didn’t notice a change in his behavior before he voluntarily disappeared.

“I mean, we’ve had a few arguments but it’s nothing to kid yourself about,” he said with a laugh on the podcast.
Two weeks before the fake kidnapping, the couple took a trip to New York City where they had a good time, Simmons said.
“We’re having fun,” he said on a podcast posted on YouTube. “We’re going to go and take a tour of the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge.”

“I’m confused, like what happened?” he said at one point on a podcast he co-hosted with a friend. “What made you do this? I do not understand.”
Russell, through his lawyer, later admitted there was no abduction or roadside baby.
The nursing student was charged with one count of making a false report to law enforcement and one count of falsely reporting an incident.

After the truth came out, Simmons said she was shocked that Russell orchestrated the whole ordeal and insisted she could have told him the truth before public officials revealed it.
“I’m angry,” she said, noting she’s still trying to cope and heal. “I’m sad. I’m in all kinds of emotions.
She previously said she was disgusted and blindsided by Russell’s actions.
Russell hasn’t tried to contact his ex since they broke up, Simmons said on the podcast.
“We don’t have any relationship with each other,” he said, also denying during the podcast that he was a stalker and promising that this would be the last time he spoke about the extraordinary incident.
