Charity Lawson Admits Having No Regrets Dumping Xavier Bonner

On the latest episode of “The Bachelorette” Season 20, which aired last week on ABC, contestant Xavier Bonner surprised Charity Lawson while they were in Fiji.

He admitted to Lawson that he had been unfaithful (many times) in his most recent relationship, which lasted two years. This was particularly difficult for Lawson to hear as she openly discussed her current “toxic” six-year relationship, in which her ex had repeatedly cheated on her. Understandably, the “Bachelor” lead felt triggered and immediately became upset and emotional and then began demanding answers from Bonner.

“It’s important that during that time, I maintain and exhibit effective emotional regulation and communication,” Lawson told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. Now, he’s speaking out, admitting he has no regrets about sending Bonner home after he dropped the bomb on him.

Following last week’s episode, Charity Lawson opened up about her difficult conversation with Xavier Bonner, admitting she has no regrets about sending him home.

“I wouldn’t go back and change anything,” Lawson told The Hollywood Reporter, “And I don’t hope we end up together because I don’t think that would be a very healthy or successful relationship.”

“Despite how many emotions I went through, I’m very proud of myself for how I stayed in the moment with those challenging conversations,” she said.

Bonner is one of Lawson’s remaining men, a leading contender for her future husband, so hearing this news is understandably devastating and challenging for him. Still, one of her main questions was why she waited so long to tell him, after waiting until after hometown and during Fantasy Suite week.

“The only thing I can do [for why he waited] it’s a simple fact that it’s not a glamorous thing to talk about,” Lawson told EW. “I am not making excuses at all; I think it’s poor [decision-making] that he waited that long, but I wonder if it was something he went back and forth with whether he wanted to talk about it openly on air… But I’m glad he didn’t hide it from me until later.

Lawson and Bonner are expected to see each other for the first time since their breakup in the “Men Tell All” episode, which will air on ABC tonight.

Ahead of Charity Lawson’s “The Bachelorette” season premiere, the “Bachelorette” host went on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast to discuss the upcoming season. Bristowe asked Lawson to describe the upcoming finale in one word, to which the show’s host laughed and said, “You brought me back.”

“One word to describe the final? I mean, ’emotion.’ That’s it, yeah,” he later shared.

Bristowe, who also landed the lead role on “The Bachelor” a few years ago, began talking about how emotional the entire season has been, especially being in the driver’s seat, to which Lawson then interrupted and said, “You don’t understand. You don’t understand.”

“Put your seat belt on!” Lawson expressed.
