A 9-year-old girl missing from an upstate New York park was found hiding in a camper cabinet Monday after the man accused of kidnapping her left a ransom note bearing fingerprints at her parents’ home, officials said.
Charlotte Sena is “in good health” after she went missing while bicycling while camping with her family at Moreau Lake State Park on Saturday, NY State Police said.
The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Craig Ross Jr., allegedly left a note at the family’s Charlotte home — possibly demanding some type of ransom in connection with his alleged kidnapping.
Gov. Kathy Hochul told CNN host Anderson Cooper on Monday night that investigators were able to locate the suspect through fingerprints left on the ransom note.
“There was a ransom and that was important in leading us directly to the suspect,” Hochul said. “His fingerprints are already in the database.”

State police confirmed that during the investigation, they identified an “individual” who was at the park around the time Charlotte went missing.
When investigators searched several homes tied to the person, they found Charlotte around 6:30 Monday afternoon and arrested a suspect, authorities said.
Sources told the Albany Times Union that Charlotte is believed to have been found in a trailer next to a home in Milton, where one of the suspect’s relatives lives.

Authorities activated an Amber Alert “for child abduction” with photos and information of Charlotte on Sunday morning.
The warning states that “the children were taken under circumstances that led the police to believe that they were in danger of serious harm and/or death.”
By Monday afternoon, State Police Lt. Richard Mazzone said investigators did not believe Charlotte, who is from Greenfield, was still in the park.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, who held an earlier news conference about the search for the missing girl, praised the “tireless” efforts of police on Monday afternoon.
“We are very happy with the news that Charlotte Sena has been found safely this afternoon after an intense search for several days,” Hochul said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to his family as they welcome him home.”
