The suspected kidnapper of nine-year-old Charlotte Sena was a “recluse” who suffered from multiple sclerosis and moved into her mother’s property after she failed to make payments on her home, neighbors have revealed.
Craig Ross Jr., 46, was arrested Monday for allegedly abducting Charlotte while she was biking at Moreau Lake State Park in Upstate New York. The little girl was found hiding in a camper closet that Ross had recently moved.
Neighbors told the Daily Mail that the 47-year-old suffers from multiple sclerosis and recently moved back into his mother’s home in Ballston Spa about a month ago because of his condition.
“This was his home until about four weeks ago, he had to move into a trailer with his mother because his MS got so bad,” a neighbor, who was not identified, told The Mail. “He’s a bit of a shut-in, he moved in right after us.”
Police descended on Ross’ former property on Monday, where he allegedly looks after his 11-year-old daughter several days a week. His two sons reportedly live with him at the property.

The property is located less than two miles from Charlotte’s family home.
Neighbors also said Ross was struggling to get around his Porters Corner property and had fallen behind on payments, the Daily Mail reported. He is often seen working in his yard but rarely talks to people in the neighborhood.
She reportedly moved into a trailer behind her mother’s house – where Charlotte was found in a closet – after her MS worsened.

Ross’ daughter also spent a lot of time at the three-bedroom house before moving out and neighbors were shocked their “quiet neighbor” had been suspected of kidnapping, the Daily Mail reported.
“I’m shocked by all this,” the neighbor told the website.
Ross, who looked very disheveled in his mugshot, was taken to the Saratoga County Jail after his arrest and is being held without bond.

Police are expected to question the alleged kidnapper throughout the day to find out if he has been stalking the Sena family and if he is a pedophile, Newsweek reported.
They will also speak to her family and friends about her whereabouts and character, while comparing her DNA to a database of child abduction cases.
It’s unclear whether Ross targeted Charlotte specifically or randomly chased after her when she was alone for a few minutes while riding her bike through Moreau Lake State Park, where she was camping with her family on Saturday.
The 6ft 4in tall suspect’s plan was thwarted when his DNA was matched with fingerprints on the ransom money he left in the Sena family’s mailbox.
His prints also matched him in their database with a 1999 DWI charge, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“He literally drove to the family’s mailbox, assuming they weren’t home [at] 4:20 a.m., opened the mailbox and inserted a ransom note leaving critical evidence — his own fingerprints,” Hochul said at a press conference Tuesday.
Ross was taken into custody “after some resistance” and charged with one count of kidnapping and is expected to face more charges.
He is due back in court later this week.
