Chelsea Handler Joins Ozempic Convo, Opens Up About Once Using The Medication

Chelsea Handler opens up about her experience with Ozempic!

More than a week after actress Jameela Jamil reignited the controversy surrounding celebrities using type 2 diabetes drugs as a weight loss treatment, Handler shared her own thoughts and experiences.

The comedian recently revealed that he once interacted with the drug without knowing what it was, thanks to a prescription given by his doctor. The use of Ozempic for rapid weight loss began after the drug went viral in a TikTok trend.

Since then, the drug has become hard to come by, making it difficult for those who really need it to obtain it. This shortage led Jamil to share his honest opinion in various social media rants, with Handler speaking out against injections.

Joining Alexandra “Alex” Cooper on the Spotify podcast “Call Her Daddy” on the Jan. 25 episode, the 47-year-old recounted, “My anti-aging doctor just gave it to anybody. I didn’t know I was on it. He said, ‘ If you want to lose five pounds, this is great.’”

However, the doctor’s words were called into question when Handler tried the drug and didn’t like how it made her feel.

“I came home from vacation and I injected myself with it. I went to lunch with my girlfriend a few days later, and she was like, ‘I didn’t eat anything. I’m so nauseous, I use Ozempic.’ And I was like, ‘I’m a little nauseous too.’ But I just got back from Spain and I’m jet-lagged,” the “This Means War” actor further detailed.

Handler then added that her friend asked if she was sure about taking Ozempic before sharing that she was only “on semaglutide” — another brand-name drug made by Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic, that treats people with clinical obesity.

At one point on the podcast, the author of “Uganda Be Kidding Me” admitted that once he found out how unnecessary it was for him to use Ozempic, he stopped and now transfers the remaining dose to his friend.

“I don’t do it anymore. That’s too irresponsible. I am an irresponsible drug user, but I will not take diabetes medicine. I tried it, and I wouldn’t do it. That’s not for me. That’s not right for me,” he told Cooper.

The “Comedy Central Presents” special guest added that he injected about “four or five” of his friends with the drug because “I realized I didn’t want to use it because it was ridiculous. It’s for heavy people.” After admitting that “everyone is on Ozempic,” Handler declared, “It’s going to backfire; something bad is going to happen.”

Earlier this month, The Blast recorded that Ozempic’s conversation began shortly after a New York Post article claimed that the reason for her view that certain bodies can be trendier than others lies in recent runway looks and social media trends.

The article, which went live last November, sparked a backlash, with Jamil posting a clip in which he told his audience, “We tried this in the 90s, and millions of people had eating disorders. I have had one for 20 years. We don’t do this anymore. We will not be back. Our body is not a trend.”

Although he mentioned Ozempic, it wasn’t until this month that he went into detail about the drug’s use to the public. Jamil begins:

“I have said what I said about the potential dangers of people using diabetes drugs for weight loss only. I fear for everyone in the next few years. Rich people buy this stuff without a prescription for more than 1000 dollars.”

The presenter noted how “mainstream madness in Hollywood” is causing drug shortages for people with diabetes. “I am deeply concerned but I cannot change any of your minds because fat phobia is choking our generation,” wrote Jamil conclusively.

The star of “The Good Place” prevents people from contributing to the topic through the comment section by limiting it. He said he was tired of chatting with other people for nothing. However, fans still liked the post over 60,000 times.
