“What I realized as I grew up is that people in your life come and go. And I have experienced this as my life has evolved.”
As for the evolution of her friendships, Burke revealed that her circle of friends has changed from when she “used to party seven nights a week,” to when she quit drinking to get sober, to when she retired from “DWTS,” and even when she moved out of Los Angeles.
After stating that “the biggest change” was starting his podcast, the 39-year-old went on to say, “Although the feeling of loss still makes me sad and upset to this day, I know that I learned something valuable that I will carry all my life.”
The dancer added that while viewers can recognize their friends when they wake up, knowing their “true friends” happens in their lowest moments. In closing, the “I Can Do That” runner-up declared:
“Although I am saddened by the loss of that relationship, I know now that life is too short. Just make sure you surround yourself with people who lift you up…who support you because you are who you choose to hang out with. So, choose wisely.”
Burke’s message seemed to resonate with her fans, who quickly expressed their support in the comments section of the Instagram post. “Oh yes, dear! When the party is over, people disappear from your life, but that’s ok. There are times and seasons for friends… a select few are all you need in your tribe,” one replied.
Another commenter typed, “Thanks for sharing. Deepest condolences on the passing of our half-sister.” A third Instagram user said, “I always love hearing your philosophy on life and hope you continue to share and surround yourself with positive people.”
