Chicago-area mom and daughter missing in Israel, feared captured by Hamas

A Chicago-area mother and daughter visiting family in Israel are among the missing Americans feared kidnapped by Hamas terrorists, relatives said.

Judith Tai Raanan and Natalie Raanan were in Nahal Oz, a small village near the Gaza Strip, when Hamas attacked and destroyed several towns on Saturday, taking more than 150 people hostage, CNN reported.

Judith’s brother and Natalie’s father said they had not heard from either of them and feared they had been abducted by terrorists following horrific videos and images of Hamas abducting women during their coordinated attacks.

“My daughter and her mother used to [captured] by HAMAS,” Uri Raanan’s father said in a desperate Facebook post.

Adi Leviatan, Judith’s brother, told CNN that his sister and niece had arrived in Israel last Monday, but he had not heard from them since the weekend violence.

President Biden has confirmed that at least 11 Americans were killed by Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel, but officials have not yet said how many US citizens are missing. Earlier Monday, the State Department said there were nine Americans killed.
