Chick-fil-A’s dream to build a “mega” restaurant in a small town in Tennessee has been delayed by local residents who have spoken out against traffic concerns.
Jennifer Casey, Public Information Officer for Collierville, Tennessee, told Fox News Digital that the city’s leadership voted for a newer, larger restaurant in their city of about 51,000 residents.
The popular chicken chain wants to build a 6,110-square-foot restaurant with 522 square feet of outdoor seating.
The new restaurant will also include a 300-square-foot playground, employee meeting rooms and two drive-thru lanes with the capacity to handle 43 cars.
In a vote on Monday, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted it down, 5-1.
Casey said that the “overall sentiment” is that it’s not an ideal location for a new restaurant because of traffic concerns.
Casey explained the plot of land for the restaurant is adjacent to Bray Station, a two-lane road that will provide access to the restaurant, and residents are concerned about congestion and traffic.

Jaime Groce, Collierville City Planner, said that Chick-fil-A’s next step will be to submit a new option that is “fully compliant” with city regulations.
“Chick-fil-A is a great corporate citizen, and we hope they will continue to invest in our community. The next step is to submit a site plan for the location that is in full compliance with all city regulations,” Groce said.
“The site plan will go back through the public planning process, which means it will be reviewed by staff, the Planning Commission, and the Design Review Commission before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will look at it again,” he said.
