Tristan Thompson’s request for custody of his younger sister Amari Thompson has come to the attention of the Department of Children and Family Services and an investigation is underway.
According to legal documents, obtained exclusively by The Blast, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in Los Angeles filed a report today regarding the Cleveland Cavaliers player’s custody case over his 17-year-old brother. However, the details of the report are still under seal as it involves minors.
Tristan Thompson Custody Case Investigated By DCFS
The Blast announced that last month the NBA player filed a petition to take care of his younger brother who has special needs. Amari has been in the care of The Kardashians, especially her ex-brother, Khloe Kardashian, after their mother Andrea Brooks died in January 2023.

In September, the Canadian basketball player filed a petition for guardianship, asking for the ability to care for and make medical decisions for Amari. “Amari has been in (Tristan’s) custody and he has provided care, maintenance and support to Amari,” the filing said.
Remember that back in July, Khloe posted about 17-year-old Amari. “Someone turns 17 today!!!! Happy birthday sweet sweet Amari!!! We are all so blessed to have been touched by an angel like you ? you are truly one of God’s greatest treasures,” he wrote.
An episode of the family’s hit show, “The Kardashians” showed that the Good American founder took in Amari after Tristan’s house — located three doors away — had some roof problems.
In the petition, Thompson accused Amari’s father of being absent. “Amari’s father, Trevor Thompson, has been actively absent from Amari’s life since Andrea Brooks received sole custody of Amari and a support order against Trevor Thompson in July 2014. Trevor Thompson has never fulfilled any of his support obligations to Amari and has actively avoided them.”
The 32-year-old claims she tried to contact Trevor, who has failed to pay child support since July 2014, but to no avail. “He has done nothing to support or promote the proposed ward since then and has given up all rights to have a say in the care of the proposed ward. In addition, Amari has a medical diagnosis that leaves her unable to provide basic care for herself and requires a Caregiver to provide that care and take her to medical appointments,” Tristan claimed in court documents.
As part of his request for custody, Tristan sought control of Amari’s inheritance from their late mother, Andrea. “Amari is set to receive approximately $103,475 as a result of her mother’s passing. A Guardian is also needed to protect Amari’s heritage from loss or injury,” he said.
Tristan informed the court that it was important for Amari to be assigned a guardian because she “is a minor and has a medical condition that prevents her from being able to care for herself or find gainful employment.” He continued, “Appointing a guardian for Amari would be in her best interest because it would ensure that someone would be responsible for providing for and meeting her basic needs.”
Tristan Thompson Owes Child Support To Jordan Craig
The latest update on Tristan’s custody case comes just a day after he was accused of owing his first baby, Jordan Craig, nearly $225,000 in child support.
Craig filed an order to withhold income for support, asking the court to garnish the basketball player’s wages from the Cavaliers until his debt to him is paid in full. In the filing, the social media personality claims Tristan began defying his court order to pay $40,000 a month in November 2022.
Tristan has “made either partial payments or missed child support payments altogether,” she claims in the document, providing a list of payments made — the highest being $29,000 in August 2023.
“It is my understanding that Tristan has recently signed an employment contract with a professional sports team, the Cleveland Cavaliers located in Cleveland, Ohio. I tried to garnish part of his salary to pay the arrears he owed me,” pleaded Craig.
He asked the court to withhold $80,000 from Thompson’s Cavaliers salary until the child support arrears are paid in full. “It is my belief that Tristan signed a “veteran minimum” contract with the Cavaliers that pays him $2.7 million per year. The $80,000 I’m asking for is definitely less than half of his monthly salary,” explained the social media influencer.
