Chilling footage shows Florida honors student lurking over mom’s bed moments before he allegedly stabbed her to death

Haunting images caught on a baby monitor show a 13-year-old Florida honors student accused of murdering her sleeping mother looming over her bed moments before she allegedly plunged a knife into herself — as her newborn sister slept in a crib steps away .

A black-and-white time-stamped image shared by the Miami-Dade County District Attorney’s Office on Monday shows Derek Rosa standing over his mother, Irina Garcia, as she slept in her bed on Oct. 12.

After 11 p.m., Rosa was seen bending over Garcia. About half an hour later, she called 911 to report her murder.

In an eerie scene, the teenager’s newborn half-sister slept in the cot right next to the bed while her mother slept, seemingly unaware of her son’s presence.

Prosecutors have yet to provide further details about what they allege happened in the photo.

More disturbingly, another still-frame shot shows Garcia in her bed, with the lights on, cradling her 14-day-old baby at 10:23pm the same night.

Within an hour of the image being timestamped, Garcia, 39, was allegedly about to be killed by her son.

Another image shows Rosa sticking out her tongue with what appears to be a bloodied hand in a selfie allegedly sent to a friend following the murder.

The DA’s office also shared an image of a pink-handled knife with what appeared to be blood on it.

During an 18-minute call with a 911 operator the night of the slaying, Rosa had confessed to killing her mother and sent a photo of the aftermath to a friend — telling dispatchers, “There’s blood all over the floor.”

The 8th grade honor roll student is also alleged to have said, “I have a gun with me. I would shoot myself, but I don’t want to. I do not want. There’s a knife in my room, and there’s a gun in the living room.”

His half-sister was not injured.

Rosa’s stepfather also lived in the apartment but was out of town for work at the time of the murder.

The teenager pleaded not guilty to his mother’s murder last month and will be tried as an adult.

His lawyers are pushing for their client to be moved to a juvenile detention facility instead of behind bars at the Metro West Detention Center, an adult prison.

On Friday, Judge Richard Hersch heard arguments on whether Rosa should be transferred to a juvenile detention center and await trial, NBC News reported.

A decision on his transfer was postponed to give the defense more time to make their case.

The 8th grader allegedly confessed to killing his mother to a 911 dispatcher the night of the murder.

Judge Hersch will rule on Tuesday unless the defense presents witnesses to support his transfer.

Rosa is currently the youngest of 34 juveniles detained at the new juvenile division in Metro West, according to NBC News.

Prosecutors remained adamant that the teenager should not be transferred to a juvenile facility.

His attorney has yet to declare any mental illness defense.

Rosa’s defense attorney examined the scene during a three-hour block on Thursday, according to NBC News.

Attorneys were joined by forensic examiners and photographers while at the Hialeah property.

During last month’s trial, Rosa was strangely calm as she stood accused of the brutal crime, even as family members of the alleged killer’s teenager became emotional in the courtroom.

His father, Jose, was seen waving at his son, even blowing him a kiss, while his grandmother, at one point, broke down in tears as her lawyer accepted the not guilty plea.

After the court hearing, her relatives did not agree with Rosa being charged as an adult – insisting that she was a “good boy.”

“Derek is a good boy. Loving, loving,” one relative said, according to WPLG.

“This is not like Derek. No one knows Derek like we know him. And this isn’t Derek, so you know.”

Jose Rosa previously asked his son to get a second chance despite the severity of the crime.

“I think what we’re asking for is another chance – a second chance – to help him grow up and grow into a grown man to get over it,” his father said, according to the station.
