Chilling moment ‘distraught’ woman points gun at friend’s tot son before being shot dead by cops

Police in California saved a 3-year-old boy by shooting and killing a “very upset” family friend who pointed a gun at his head, as seen in chilling images from body camera video.

Darvet Brown, 35, was confronted by officers with the San Bernardino Police Department inside an apartment on East 21st Street Sunday morning and shot multiple times. He died at the scene.

The horrific incident began around 8 a.m., when police received a 911 call from a grandmother saying an armed woman was inside her apartment threatening her 3-year-old grandson, station KTLA reported.

Responding officers were met by the caller, who told them she feared for the toddler’s life because the woman — later identified as Brown — had fired a gun multiple times inside the apartment.

While police were speaking with the grandmother, they said they saw Brown, who they described as “very dazed,” appear on the balcony and point a gun at them, before rushing back into the apartment and locking the door.

One of the officers opened fire on the woman, hitting her several times and injuring her. When Brown refused to drop the gun and continued to point it at the boy, police shot him again, this time fatally, and then pulled the boy to safety.

The child was not physically injured in the shooting.

First responders attempted to save Brown’s life, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said Brown was not related to the boy and there was no immediate information on his motive for threatening him with a gun, adding that “his behavior is not fully understood at this time.”

The mother of the 3-year-old told NBC Los Angeles that Brown was her friend, but she did not elaborate.

“We don’t really understand the reason behind the suspect’s chaotic behavior,” said Lt. Jennifer Kohrell, with the San Bernardino Police Department, to local outlets. “He had been very violent with the people there for some time before we got there.”

Kohrell said the lives of residents in the apartment were in danger and officers had to act quickly.

“We are very grateful that our officers acted quickly and were able to save the child’s life,” he said. said.
