Newly released body camera video captures the moment police fatally shot a knife-wielding man who crashed a car into the lobby of the Chinese consulate in San Francisco.
Zhanyuan Yang, 31, stormed into the consulate’s visa office on October 9 and was heard shouting, “Where is the CCP?” — an apparent reference to the Chinese Communist Party, the San Francisco Standard reported.
Videos shot by members of the public show the Chinese struggling with security guards and trying to remove objects from the blue Honda before police arrived.
“So a car hit the Chinese Embassy and the guy was holding a gun,” said a 911 caller about 3 p.m.
“The car broke into the building, drove through the lobby, and the guy had a gun.”
A caller also reported that the security guard got into a fight with the driver after he crashed into the building. “It was intentional,” another 911 caller said of the crash.
“Please send SWAT to us as soon as possible,” a caller could be heard pleading.

Bodycam footage shows Sgt. Troy Carrasco ran into the building and confronted the suspect, who appeared to be covering his face from the pepper spray that was used before police arrived.
The sergeant pushed Yang against the wall, shouting: “I will not give up!”
He then turned and brandished a knife before Carrasco fired, the video shows.
“The guy should have told me he had a knife,” the sergeant, who joined the department in 1994, was heard saying moments later.
Police later found a crossbow in the back of the Honda, according to the outlet.
The response was handled like an “active shooter” situation, Police Chief Bill Scott said.
“If we believe that we have an active attacker event, we will do everything possible to stop the threat immediately so that we don’t lose lives,” the top cop said in the virtual meeting.

Yang’s motive remains unclear and the shooting is still under investigation.
In 2012, he launched a communications firm while attending college in China.
He later took college classes in San Francisco and studied filmmaking at the now-defunct San Francisco Art Institute, another student there who asked to remain anonymous told the San Francisco Standard.
“Our impression of him was that he was not very social,” said the former student, who is from China.
Yang’s landlord, Victor Lyapis, described him as a “very nice guy,” but noted that he recently had trouble making rent and his checks bounced.
A reporter from the Standard who was allowed into his apartment found what appeared to be a replica gun there. It is unclear whether any of the weapons are real.
Yang’s roommate says he spends his time playing video games.AP
Yang’s roommate, who did not give his name, said the car he drove into the consulate belonged to someone else who lived in the apartment.
He said Yang spent his time playing video games, running, shooting his bow and arrow in the park and flying his drone.
“If he became radicalized, it was recently,” he told the outlet.
The police shooting was unusual because it happened inside the consulate, which is considered foreign soil, according to the Standard, which noted that it happened shortly before the city hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, a gathering of world leaders from the Pacific Rim countries.
It remains unclear whether Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend.
