In an interview with Wondermind, published earlier this week, the Netflix reality star opened up about her struggles with ADHD. She revealed that her mother had tried to get her diagnosed when she was around 11 years old, but said it was “very hard to get women diagnosed with ADHD because I think it’s just sexist.”
After admitting that her brother had been diagnosed with ADHD around the same time, Chloe felt that her mother “kind of knew” she had it too. “She put me in different after-school clubs,” Chloe says of her mother’s behavior. “He would keep a thick diary of my behavior, what I used to eat, how I would act, and how I handled my emotions because he knew that he would need it one day.”

Once she “came of age,” Chloe moved out and got her own flat apartment after appearing on season 1 of Netflix’s hit reality series “Too Hot To Handle.” However, he found it difficult to navigate life on his own.
“I got a default payment. I lost the bill. I lost all my charges. I lost my car keys,” he explained. “I was overwhelmed by the work. It got to the point where I slept all day, every day because I couldn’t cope with the stress of my life. Then it got out of control.”
One day, Chloe explained that she was crying because she was stressed about doing laundry and couldn’t remember the temperature used for certain clothes. He remembered how he would call his mother to come and help him more often.

“It will get to the point where some days I want to clean my house and I will. And other times it would be really hard for me to get up and brush my teeth,” Chloe explained. “So my level of physical and personal hygiene started to decline.”
“I will miss the meeting. I would be late for something all the time,” he continued. “I don’t have a function in my brain where I can focus on the conversation and really take in what they’re saying. So, people say, ‘Oh, he’s really dizzy. He’s really stupid. What happened to Chloe?’ I am. That’s part of me, but it’s also my ADHD. I have a short attention span. I can’t concentrate on one thing for too long, otherwise I get really overwhelmed.”

Chloe revealed that she wasn’t actually diagnosed with ADHD until last year when she went to a specialist. He handed over all the journals his mother used to keep about his behavior as a child. Chloe says that the diagnosis has actually given her more acceptance of who she is.
“Being diagnosed has helped me stop being mad at myself because it used to get to the point where I used to get really upset. I used to be like, Why can’t I be normal? Why can’t I just leave the house and remember to put diesel in my car ?” explained Chloe. “But instead I’m on the side of the road and I’m out of diesel, I’m out of gas. why? So instead of beating myself up about it, it’s accepting and acknowledging that, OK, this is ADHD and this is normal. A lot of people have it.”

When asked how she copes with ADHD, she said that it helps to have conversations with her friends “and sit them down and educate them.” She gave the example of her friend, Nicole, who did not understand that some of Chloe’s behaviors were tied to her ADHD symptoms.
“When I went to America, I talked to him, but I didn’t talk to him enough because he was quite invisible, lost his mind, lacked empathy, which is tied to ADHD,” Chloe explained. “He doesn’t understand. So I had to talk to him and say to him, ‘Nic, it’s part of my ADHD too.’ Some people can’t see it. They just think because I look fine that I’m OK, but actually I didn’t mean to trouble you or bother you.”
