Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie dropped out of the 2024 Republican presidential race on Wednesday — but not before getting caught on a hot mic blasting his rival Nikki Haley as “not so far” and mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a “deadbeat.”
Moments before Christie, 61, announced at a town hall in Windham, NH, he was suspending his campaign, The Post heard him in a video feed promoted by his campaign complaining about the state of the race.
“He’s spent $68 million so far just on TV,” he said of Haley, then added that DeSantis has spent “$59 million … and we’ve spent 12.
“Who is punching above their weight and who is getting a return on their investment?” Christie continued. “You know? And he’ll smoke. And you and I both know, he’s not up for it.”
Seemingly unaware that he could be heard by anyone waiting for him to take the stage, Christie added that “DeSantis called me scared that I’m going to do it,” apparently referring to leaving the race, before someone else said: “He’s probably going to drop out after Iowa. “
