In a recent Netflix comedy special, Chris Rock opens up about the infamous slap he got from Will at last year’s Oscars. During a set titled “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage,” the 58-year-old comedian discussed the incident that occurred after he joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head.

During the show, which aired live on Netflix from the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore, Maryland, Rock made light of the incident and noted that the blow still stings more than a year later.

“Y’all know what happened to me, getting hit by Suge Smith,” he joked. “People are like does it hurt? Still sick! I got ‘Summer’ in my ears.”

Despite the embarrassing moment, Rock used the incident as material for his comedy set and reminded his audience that even the most famous and successful people are not immune to the occasional embarrassing moment.

He also insisted that he is not one to appear on talk shows like Oprah or Gayle to cry about the incident. The comedian compared himself to taking a punch to the way boxer Manny Pacquiao would handle it. “I took the punch like Pacquiao,” he said.

The Netflix comedy special marks the first time the comedian has discussed the incident at length. However, she previously hinted that she was still trying to come to terms with what happened during her stand-up performance, which she gave just four days after the 2022 Oscars.

A month after the incident, Rock joked that he wouldn’t talk about the slap until he was “paid.”

During his latest Netflix comedy special, Rock made sure to throw jab after jab at Will, saying his anger was misplaced and should have been directed at his wife. Rock was referring to an episode of his Facebook series, “Red Table Talk,” where he admitted to having an affair in 2020.

“Is Smith practicing selective anger because everyone knows what’s going on,” Rock quipped. He added, “I don’t have any problems. Will Smith’s wife killed her son’s friend, OK. Normally I wouldn’t talk about that crap, but for some reason, they put it on the internet.”

“We have all been deceived. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person we cheated on on television. He hurt her more than he hurt me,” he concluded.

The comedian didn’t mince his words as he repeatedly called the Oscar-winning actor a “b**ch”, even going so far as to claim that the entire industry thinks Will is a “scumbag” for allowing “Jada’s entanglement” with August Alsina.

After the Oscar spat, which resulted in a backlash against Will, the “emancipated” actor publicly apologized and said he also contacted Rock to apologize.

In a heartfelt video posted on YouTube, Will talks about his violent reaction to Rock’s comments about Jada’s hair loss caused by alopecia. Rock has compared his buzzcut to Demi Moore in “GI Jane.” In the video, Smith expresses his response to Rock’s words, apologizes for his actions, and considers his behavior unacceptable.

“No part of me thought that was the right way to behave at the time. No part of me thinks that’s the optimal way to deal with feelings of disrespect or humiliation,” he said in the video.

During a November 2022 interview on “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah, Smith explained that the slap was sparked by “anger” and emotion. He acknowledged the complicated situation but stressed that his actions were ultimately inexcusable. “There’s a lot of nuance and complexity to it,” Smith said. “But at the end of the day, I just – I lost it, you know?” he said per Insider.
