Nearly a year after the series finale for “This Is Us” aired after six seasons, Metz, who played the only sister of the ‘Big Three’ Pearson kiddos, is still trying to establish her identity as an actress.
“This Is Us” viewers saw the Pearson family’s life story unfold over four decades, and Metz played the grown-up version of Kate. Kate spends her life being the ultimate version of herself, away from the shadow of comparisons to her brothers, her normally beautiful mother, Rebecca (Mandy Moore), and the society’s view that surrounds her image.

Although her character finally landed after years of searching, Metz, 42, is still going through the same process in her post-“This Is Us” career.
The author of “This Is Me: Loving The Person You Are Today,” recently shared some details about her process with People magazine and previewed her latest project.

The Blast covered several aspects of the final days of the series, including how various cast members felt about the show’s final episode

Moore spoke to The Guardian last summer and revealed the lessons she learned from playing Rebecca for six years.
“This is a woman who has experienced a great tragedy. She lost a child in childbirth and a partner and got a debilitating diagnosis later in life, all the while navigating it with grace, poise, resilience, and joy,” Moore told writer Ilana Kaplan. “I try to see her as a model for how I want to choose to live. my life.”
Series creator Dan Fogelman joked about Moore’s reaction to the “This Is Us” finale storyline during a cast panel last year. “I’ll tell you one thing,” Fogelman said. “the second to last script made Mandy throw up. Hope you don’t vomit,” he joked. (via The Blast)
“[It was] beautiful vomit,” added Moore. “It’s so beautiful and annoying that that’s my physical reaction.”
Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Rebecca’s husband and Kate’s father, Jack Pearson, also shared his thoughts on the conclusion of the Pearsons’ story.
“It’s whole and full,” Ventimiglia told Deadline (via Us Weekly) of the final storyline. “I’m happy to end the show with Mandy in a scene together because that’s how we started it. It feels good and successful; we’re allowed to wrap things up respectfully and wholeheartedly for the characters. I am grateful,” Ventimiglia concluded. (per The Blast)
During the PaleyFest panel above, Metz told the audience how playing Kate has been a personal awakening; he joked he was “broken” and “broken” before landing the part.

Metz simultaneously acknowledged the nostalgia she feels from playing Kate and the personal influence of the series’ legacy on how she approaches future projects.
“You don’t always get one of those, let alone multiple of them,” he told People of the once-in-a-lifetime “This Is Us” influence. “I just try to be conscious and deliberate with my projects.”

Metz also explores the difference between having the chance to play a character for years, which allows an actor to get the full scope of who the character is, and a shorter time on a film set, which allows the actor to bond with their character. .
“It’s hard when you’ve been doing something for six years because you know the character, and even though you’re still discovering more about them, you still have an understanding,” he explained. “Whereas with a movie, you might have a month if you’re lucky from set-up to finish. And that way it’s like, ‘Oh boy, I wish I had more time with’ whatever character you bring,” continued Metz.
Metz’s upcoming film “Stay Awake” will hit theaters in Los Angeles on May 25th!
