Climate activists blasted red spray paint on the $300 million luxury yacht owned by billionaire Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie early Friday — the second time it has been vandalized in the past two months.
Two activists from Spain’s Scientist Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion sprayed a yacht docked in Barcelona to “denounce the huge impact of billionaires on the #climateccrisis,” the organization said online.
Video showed activists spraying bright red paint on the huge luxury liner before unfurling a banner saying, “Billionaires shouldn’t exist.”
Eco warriors point out that the paint is biodegradable.
“At the end of an extraordinary summer in terms of record temperatures and extreme weather events, the richest 1% of people on the planet continue to pollute more than the poorest 50%,” a spokesperson for the group told CNN.
“Mega-yachts are one of the clearest examples of an unsustainable lifestyle for the planet.”

The activists entered the Port Vell Marina, a berth for superyachts, at about 7am on Friday, the group said.
The activist was detained by the police at the marina for three hours before being released.
A Port Vell Marina spokesperson said the boat was not damaged and was immediately cleaned up after the incident.

The same ship was targeted earlier this summer by activists Futuro Vegetal, who used fire extinguishers to spray paint the ship in red and black while it was docked in Ibiza.
After damaging the ship, activists held up a banner that read, “You Eat – Others Suffer.”
“The only reason we continue to maintain an economic system that has led us to eco-social collapse is to maintain the privileges of this small privileged class,” the group said at the time in justifying the vandalism.

“The rich live off the suffering of others,” said the eco warrior.
Futuro Vegetal Group said it specifically targeted Laurie’s yacht because she is one of the richest women in the world, with the Bloomberg Billionaires Index pegging her net worth at $7.77 billion.
