Coast Guard responds to fire report on yacht of retired doc busted for drugs, guns, and prostitutes in Nantucket: ‘Oh, he’s burning the evidence!’

The US Coast Guard responded to reports of a possible fire Sunday aboard a retired doctor’s yacht that was busted for carrying drugs, guns and prostitutes on board — leaving Nantucket locals who heard the emergency call in stitches.

“We only heard it on the radio. We started laughing about it,” said a fisherman who was about 30 miles offshore with friends when the warning was issued about 69-year-old Scott Anthony Burke’s 82-foot yacht, the Jess Conn.

“We were like, ‘Oh, he’s burning evidence!'” the Nantucket native told The Post, requesting anonymity because of how small the island community is.

“We were like, ‘Oh, he got in trouble so he burned the evidence and we’re going to come back and he’s going to blow up the boat in the harbor and it’s going to be a nightmare.'”

The Coast Guard’s Nantucket outpost confirmed they were dispatched to the Jess Conn around 4pm Sunday after a woman on board called to report a fire after seeing smoke.

Officials quickly determined the smoke was simply the exhaust of the boat itself, telling The Post it was “not unusual.”

Burke’s yacht remained docked in Nantucket Harbor since police found cocaine, ketamine, and at least two guns and ammunition on board while responding to reports that a woman had overdosed on Tuesday.

The former spine doctor – a married father of two based in Florida – was handcuffed and slapped with weapons smuggling and drug charges.

He was taken into custody and released after posting his full $200,000 bail about a day later.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges during a court appearance on Wednesday.

The fisherman called Burke a “freak” but said the Jess Conn was a “peaceful” and “low-key” boat before the arrest.

Other people around the harbor also said there was no disturbance coming from Jess Conn before the incident.

“They were really humble before they were busted,” said one angler who asked not to be identified.

People have been seen at Jess Conn over the weekend, but it’s still unclear if Burke is back with them after posting bail or if he’s on the island at all.

The fisherman said he saw two men sitting on the back deck on Saturday.

“They just sit in the back wearing hats and glasses. Just two people sitting in the shadows,” he told The Post.

One of them matched Burke’s build, but he said that wasn’t very strong evidence that it was him.

“He looks like most millionaires around here. They look like they’ve been eating at the restaurant for the past thirty years,” said the fisherman. “A lot of booze, a lot of salt, a lot of cream.”
