Colorado dad with ‘zest for life’ killed in tragic parachute mishap while skydiving

A Colorado father with a “zeal for life” was tragically killed last week when his parachute malfunctioned during a skydive.

Jacob “Jake” Todd was close to reaching his 100th jump when the daredevil father was killed during a skydiving event in Texas on October 15, a report said.

Todd is survived by both his parents, three siblings, and his beloved 9-year-old daughter, his father, Dave Todd, said.

“That guy is not only my son, but my best friend,” she told Fox 31.

The grieving father said Jake is approaching his 100th jump this year.

“He knows that I don’t necessarily like him because I’m afraid of risk, but I also understand the fun he brings to his life,” Dave said.

Both the 36-year-old father and 9-year-old Jeune know how to light up a room, his brother Bryan Todd told the outlet.

“He and his daughter were really something special together,” he said.

“I think one of the things Jake taught me was compassion,” Bryan added. “Jake’s the kind of guy who’ll give you the shirt off his back, who’ll give you the last thing he’s got if that’s what you need.”

Their father agreed that his son was someone anyone could trust with “time, money, ears or opinion,” Dave said.

“Jake really embraced the Colorado spirit, and I’m going to miss him, but I’m very proud of him,” Dave said. “I fully intend to make sure that through his daughter and my other children, we will carry on that legacy.”

The GoFundMe set up to help with expenses and to support his daughter Jeune also notes that the daredevil father likes to “push the limits in his hobbies, whether it’s racing cars or skydiving.”

That lifelong fun seemed to rub off on his daughter, who he would take on adventures “like rock hunting, going to theme parks and skydiving,” according to the fundraiser.

“If you know Jake, you know Jeuene is always attached to his hip,” the fundraiser said.

His funeral was held on Sunday at Parker Funeral Home.

He is survived by a daughter, parents, two brothers and a sister, grandparents and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, according to his obituary.
