Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold says she faced death threats after Trump booted from ballot

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold revealed that she has endured more than 64 death threats since the lawsuit was filed to remove Trump from the state’s ballot.

Griswold, a Democrat, insisted that he would not bow to public pressure on the matter.

“Within three weeks of the suit being filed, I received 64 death threats. I stopped counting after that. I will not be afraid. Democracy and peace will triumph over tyranny and violence,” wrote Griswold in X.

In his post, he linked an interview he did in which he stated that he was “deeply concerned” about the violence and threats over the suit.

Griswold also stated that he “did not file this case” but was thrown into it because of his position as Secretary of State.

Trump was set to be barred from the state ballot following a Colorado Supreme Court ruling earlier this month but has since remained pending an appeal by his legal team to the US Supreme Court.

The Colorado Supreme Court’s 4-3 decision refers to Section 3 of the Civil War-era Fourteenth Amendment, commonly known as the Insurrection Clause or Disqualification Clause, which bars those who participate in “rebellion or insurrection” from holding office.

Ultimately, they concluded Trump’s ploy to challenge the 2020 election barred him from running under the Disqualification Clause.

Trump’s team has rejected the decision.

“We have full confidence that the US Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to this un-American lawsuit,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said at the time.

Since then, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has opted to drop him from the state’s 2024 primary ballot for the same reason.

Griswold praised Bellows after he unilaterally gave Trump the boot.

“I think Secretary Bellows is brave and courageous,” Griswold told MSNBC on Friday. “He is the first individual, by himself, to have to make this decision.”

Bellows has claimed to have endured death threats as well and recently said he was “beaten” – having made false calls to the police to attract officers to his home.

Other states like California and Michigan have refused to remove Trump from the ballot – for now.
