A 67-year-old Colorado woman suffered a puncture wound to her leg after she was gored by an “aggressive” mule deer outside her home Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The woman was attacked by a young mule deer, armed with two spikes on each antler, in front of her home in Silver Cliff, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a news release.
The victim suffered a puncture wound on his left leg and a horrific bruise on his right leg before he could rush inside, CPW said.
Following the surprise attack, two young bucks were seen fighting in his yard, which is normal behavior during mating season, the agency said.
The woman was taken to the hospital after calling her husband.
Officers are looking for the deer and will kill the animal if they find it, CPW said.

The deer may have been drawn to the house because of the bird feeders there.
“A wildlife officer went to investigate and found a bird feeder in the yard,” said Mike Brown, CPW’s area wildlife manager for the region.
“The victim told CPW officers that he had been feeding the birds and had thrown away the bread earlier that day.”

Because the deer launched an attack on the woman so close to her home, officials quickly speculated that someone had fed the deer, causing the animal to lose its fear of humans.
“I believe this is a good example of what happens when deer lose their natural fear of humans,” Brown said.
“They become aggressive and dangerous. This is a good reminder that wild animals should always be treated as such and people need to give wildlife the space they need.
“We are glad this woman did not suffer more serious injuries.”
The incident occurred in a town of 600 located about 50 miles from Pueblo in Colorado.
