The Blast has covered many aspects of Burnett’s career and outlook in recent years, including his thoughts on turning 90.
Not only did the comedian recently reflect on his rewarding life, but his legendary library of works will also be commemorated tonight on NBC!
Burnett also reflects on “The Carol Burnett Show” and whether it has a place in today’s entertainment landscape.
In a conversation with Page Six, Burnett said, “I don’t think the networks are going to follow what we’re doing. We have a 28-piece live orchestra, we have 12 dancers and we have two guest stars a week, and Bob Mackie designs- get this- 60 to 75 costumes a week, everything that everybody wears in all the sketches and all the musical numbers, and so on and next,” he shared.
He also brought up the inner workings of studio production.
‘I’m very lucky, at this age, to be able to hit the sandbox and play with people’

“And no network today would spend that money,” Burnett continued. “The money that will be spent today is huge. So they won’t do it. And you know, they feel that diversity is dead, which I don’t believe.”
He added, “There are so many people who can do variety shows, but… they can’t do what we do because of the cost. That’s the problem. That’s why nothing like our show or Dean Martin’s, or any of those, you know, can’t happen today.”
Burnett summed up his reflections by saying “I’m very fortunate, at this age, to be able to hit the sandbox and play with people” (via Page Six, per The Blast).
Tonight’s commemorative TV special “Carol Burnett: 90 Years Of Laughter + Love” gets Burnett’s full seal of approval!
“I was amazed in the evening,” he told the outlet. “It was incredible. It’s not a birthday party. It’s not roast. It’s a variety show.”
