Cop accused of dumping oil on climate protester blocking road

A police officer in Germany has been accused of throwing fuel on radical climate protesters who were accused of blocking a road and the matter is now being investigated for potential disciplinary action.

Climate activists from the Letzte Generation (“Last Generation”) stick their hands to the Konrad-Adenauer Bridge in Manheim, Germany, on September 3.

Climate activists made claims that some in the crowd were deliberately doused with oil, and provided a video showing at least one instance where a police officer holding a container of oil spilled it on one of the activists, who was wearing an orange vest in their protest.

Oil was allegedly used to separate activists’ hands from the pavement.

The tactic of sticking their hands in the streets has been used by climate activists to raise awareness about climate change.

One activist said the officer dumped so much oil on his arm that he ended up sitting in the pool on the road.

Another activist said the officer spilled oil on his pants.

“We are all part of the last generation that still has a chance to stop the complete ecological collapse of the Earth, regardless of whether we want it or not,” said the Letzte Generation. “We stand united and offer firm, non-violent resistance to the fossil fuel madness going on today. We are the people’s will to survive! We still have two to three years in which we can veer off the path of destruction led by fossil fuels .”

According to the British newspaper The Express, “Ralf Kusterer, head of the German police union in Baden-Württemberg, emphasized that if there is any misconduct by police officers, they must be held accountable, regardless of public sentiment. The allegations have sparked concerns about potential police brutality and intrusion.”

Demonstrators have held frequent protests in Germany, causing major delays on highways and roads, and it has tested people’s patience.

An August incident in Munich showed drivers refusing to stop in the middle of protesters blocking the road. As protesters approached to block the car, it slowly slid forward.

Climate protesters were dragged hundreds of feet down the road by cars.

Around the same time period, a 41-year-old truck driver in Germany violently fought with climate protesters, dragging each of them to the side of the road and then dragging the protesters forward with his vehicle.

In July, a woman in Germany grabbed one of the climate protesters by the hair and dragged him to the side of the road. The woman was later dubbed the “brutal blonde” by the European media.

The activist was slightly injured in the altercation. Police said they are reviewing video and photos of the incident to determine whether criminal action is needed against those who dragged the protesters off the street. They also said climate activists had been detained.

“The Last Generation is not protecting the climate, they are involved in criminal activities,” said Germany’s Minister of Digital Affairs and Transport, Volker Wissing.
