A former NYPD cop who was fired from the force in 2023 for pulling a gun during a parking dispute is now facing a DWI manslaughter charge after a weekend crash in Nassau County.
Police said Aaron Cooper of Lindenhurst, 26, was drunk when he lost control of his vehicle at 4:30 a.m. Saturday in North Woodmere and overturned the car.
Arriving officers found Cooper’s 22-year-old passenger, who was not identified, dead at the scene.
The former policeman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Cooper now faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, assault, DWI, and reckless driving.
Cooper was fired from the NYPD in January 2023 for pulling out a gun during an early morning argument over a parking lot.
The former policeman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Cooper was off duty in July 2021 when he began an altercation with a Queens man in front of the victim’s home and then pulled out the weapon.
He allegedly called the victim “an insult, causing him anxiety,” a police spokeswoman said.
Cooper was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, criminal mischief and harassment, police said.
A department spokesman confirmed Sunday that he was terminated in January 2023.
Cooper will be arraigned when medically possible.
