A Pennsylvania police officer has been suspended after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman and later apologized to her, telling her he did not “intentionally rape” her.
Justin Hain, 38, of Lykens, who has been with the Steelton Borough Police Department for less than two months, faces multiple charges in connection with Wednesday’s incident at the woman’s home, WHTM reported.
The woman said he approached her with a “weird smile” when she came out of the bathroom in a towel between 4 and 5 p.m., according to the outlet, which cited the criminal complaint.
She told him she didn’t want to be touched, but Hain allegedly removed the towel, pinned the woman to the couch and raped her as she pleaded for him to stop and hit her several times, according to the affidavit.
He told investigators that he was unable to move when he pushed his head against the couch.
When the attack ended, the woman waited for Hain to leave for work before going to a friend’s house and calling the police.
Later that day, she called the man she said was cruel and asked him why he continued to sexually assault her despite her pleading.
“I know you don’t like it,” Hain told her during the call, according to the document, adding: “It’s probably one of my sad things, one of my things.”

When she told him she didn’t have to worry about being sexually assaulted in her own home, Hain said she was “very sorry,” according to the complaint.
“I did not rape you on purpose,” he added, he said.
Hain, who is suspended, is charged with one count of involuntary sexual intercourse, one count of forcible rape, two counts of sexual assault, one count of indecent assault with forcible compulsion and one count of indecent assault without consent.
Hain is being held in the Dauphin County Jail on $50,000 bail and is barred from having any contact with the woman. The district attorney’s office has asked for additional requirements, including banning him from contacting her on social media.

“We’re asking to be more specific to make it clear that they can’t come within any distance, a certain distance, of the victim, his home, his workplace,” Dauphin County District Attorney Francis Chardo told WHTM.
“In any field, there are going to be people who make terrible mistakes,” Chardo said. “When that happens, we need to take action very, very quickly to make sure they don’t continue to carry guns and carry badges and potentially abuse their power.”
Hain, who was sworn in as an officer on Nov. 20, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
