Country music star Toby Keith has died at the age of 62. The singer reportedly died surrounded by loved ones on Monday, with a statement released by family members saying he fought “with grace.”
Keith is an icon in the country scene and is known for such hits as “As Good As I Once Was,” “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” and several others.

According to a message shared by Keith’s family on his official Facebook page, the singer died on February 5. In the statement, they referred to Keith’s death from his battle with stomach cancer, noting that he fought the disease with “grace and courage. “
They said: “Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5, surrounded by his family. He fought his battle with grace and courage. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”
Keith first revealed about his stomach cancer diagnosis in 2022 in a message shared on his Instagram page.
The singer said at the time, “Last fall, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I have spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover, and rest. I can’t wait to spend time with my family. But I will see the fans soon. I can not wait.”
At the time, the star postponed all of her shows, with her publicist revealing that she would not be in any shows while undergoing treatment.
Tribute Poured For Toby Keith
Shortly after his family shared the news of his death, Keith’s fans and friends flooded his comments with tributes to his legacy and condolences to his family.
One comment read, “We lost not only a country music legend last night, but we also lost a true American Patriot. A great example of a man of dignity: a man who has been married for 40 years and raised his beautiful children and put family up there up there. He LOVES this country SO MUCH and in every song, the love for this country shines through.”
The message continued, “A man who WILL NEVER be forgotten, but will ALWAYS be missed. My heart goes out to his wife, children, immediate & extended family, friends & to the country music community. We lost one of those rare goodies. Calm down, Toby.”
