Couple, 2 young kids and 3 dogs found shot to death inside suburban Chicago home

An Illinois couple and their two young children, along with the family’s three dogs, were all found shot to death inside their suburban Chicago home Sunday night in a suspected quadruple homicide, authorities said.

The bodies of father Alberto Rolon, mother Zoraida Bartolomei and their two children were found around 8:40pm by Romeoville police after officers stopped by their home for a welfare check. The child’s name and age were not released Monday.

Three dogs were also found shot dead inside the house.

Romeoville Deputy Police Chief Chris Burne said during a news conference Monday that police do not believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.

“Right now we are investigating this as a homicide,” he said during a press conference broadcast by NBC Chicago.

He also does not believe the surrounding community is at risk, although no arrests have been reported.

“Due to the amount of time that has passed – more than 18 hours from the time we were contacted – we are not asking anyone to shelter in place, we are not actively searching for anyone in the area,” he said.

It’s unclear whether the parents were married, Burne said.

Both children are students at RC Hill Elementary School, Valley View School District Superintendent Rachel Kinder said in a note to the community.

Law enforcement believes the four families were killed between 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday.

“I’m devastated,” neighbor Lynn Phillips, who lives in the same house, told the Chicago Sun Times. “I’ve been crying all day.”

Neighbors told the news outlet that the family were nice people who rarely went out in the neighborhood.

“They kept quiet,” a neighbor told ABC 7 Chicago. “I really don’t know. Never seen children outside playing and I have a child. I didn’t really know what was going on and it was really scary. Too close to home.”

“It was a mother and father and some children. The parents would be outside working in the yard, and we would wave hello and goodbye, things like that,” Phillips told the Sun Times. “Nothing out of the ordinary. We all keep to ourselves.”

Next-door neighbor Carol Love told the newspaper that the family tried to be good neighbors.

“It’s very sad. They’re good people. They didn’t bother anybody,” Love reportedly said. “I hope they find out who did it.”

Romeoville is located about 30 miles southwest of Chicago.
