Courtney Love is excited about Nirvana’s latest milestone!
Love, who was married to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain from 1992 until his death two years later, had a somewhat complicated relationship with her late husband’s band legacy, marred by legal action and a once-fraught relationship with Cobain’s Nirvana bandmate Dave Grohl. Cobain would die by suicide in March 1994.
The “Doll Parts” singer had nothing but praise for the recording academy on Tuesday, taking to Instagram to thank the institution for bestowing Cobain’s band with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Earlier this month, the surviving members of Nirvana were among the winners who took home the Lifetime Achievement award during the Special Merit Awards ceremony that follows the Grammy Awards.
Nirvana Is Among The Recipients Of Lifetime Achievement Awards By The Recording Academy
Surviving original Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl will accept the award during the February 5 ceremony. Rhythm guitarist Pat Smear is also behind him.
Novoselic will receive the award. According to Rolling Stone, the Nirvana bassist will accept the award while Grohl and Smear look on.
“There’s a new generation of Nirvana fans,” Novoselic said in his speech, “and I’m very grateful for that. Thank you all, so keep rocking,” he continued.
Novoselic was especially grateful to Love, as Love’s relationship with surviving members of Nirvana was historically complicated.
Love Puts Away Any Thoughts About Past Feuds As She Gives A Shout Out To The Recording Academy
Love, who has now finished writing his memoirs, took to Instagram to send his love to the Recording Academy and Johnathan Daniel of management company Crush Music.
In a two-slide Instagram post depicting Nirvana’s famous smiley face logo, Love wrote in the caption, “Most fun I’ve ever had with ad copy! Weee! Words are fun! And here I am in 1992 telling Kurt ‘Fon’s so butch’ & ‘C’mon who would want to look like a bumble bee [bee emoji]”
“We released the ad in the middle of the Grammy program,” he continued. “So everyone needs to notice! [dinosaur emojis]”
A copy of the post read, “The Cobain family & estate would like to thank Jonathan Daniel and Crush Music for their support, loyalty and heroic efforts for Kurt and Nirvana. The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Nirvana was a monumental achievement. Without Crush Music’s hard work, wisdom, tenacity- and the creation of a new ethical management culture for artists, whose values align with Kurt’s- this would not have been possible,” the post continued.
Love ended his post by further expressing his gratitude to Crush Music.
The post also included a line from Nirvana’s 1993 song “Pennyroyal Tea” from their third album “In Utero,”: “Teenage rage has paid off, now I’m bored and old.”
Love’s memoir reportedly spent less time focusing on her relationship with Cobain, but instead the wealth she inherited, according to our piece on everything to know about the “Celebrity Skin” singer’s memoir.
Love’s memoir will be distributed by Harper Collins publishing. The exact release date has not been revealed, as paper shortages have held it back.
