Cuba Gooding Jr Avoids Rape Accusation Trial With Last-Minute Settlement

Try Gooding Jr. was again spared jail time after he skipped trial for rape minutes before his scheduled trial.

The Hollywood veteran’s status as an award-winning actor remains undisputed, given his sensational performance. However, the entertainer’s personality behind the camera has been a source of concern over the years.

Several women accused the 55-year-old of sexual abuse and inappropriate behavior, with an unidentified woman filing a rape suit in 2020. Despite her claims, the alleged victim skipped her day in court for the settlement.

On June 6, the Associated Press reported that the “Boyz n the Hood” star avoided the law digging into his controversial relationship with an unnamed woman. The media personality allegedly raped the woman in a New York City hotel more than a decade ago, according to the lawsuit.

Following the accusations, the father of three pleaded not guilty through his lawyer. The entertainer’s lawyer claimed the pair’s intimate relationship was consensual after they met at a nearby restaurant and the woman had bragged afterwards to others that she had sex with a celebrity.

However, the plaintiff’s narrative is different. According to court records, the woman claims the Oscar winner convinced her to join him at a hotel following their meeting in Manhattan.

On arrival at the accommodation, the 55-year-old man persuaded her to come to his room on the pretext of changing clothes but allegedly raped her. Despite the seriousness of the crimes he asserted took place, the two sides chose to settle privately rather than fight it out in court.

The trial, which was to begin with jury selection in a New York federal court, ended minutes before the jury assembled. A calendar entry in the official court records reads: “TRIAL” and “Reason for annulment (by consent): parties have settled the matter.”

The woman, who wants $6 million in damages, may wish to remain anonymous by settling out of court. According to reports, the alleged victim was allowed to remain anonymous during the proceedings until last week. Judge Paul A. Crotty has ruled that he will be required to reveal his name at trial.

Before their settlement, the unidentified woman appeared to have the upper hand in the case when the judge decided to allow Gooding’s three past victims to take the stand. These women claim they experienced sudden sexual assaults or attempted sexual assaults after meeting the “Man of Honor” star in social places such as nightclubs and restaurants.

These three alleged victims come from a long list of more than thirty other women. Authorities revealed that Gooding had been accused of sexually assaulting this woman. The 55-year-old’s crimes included groping, unwanted kissing and other inappropriate behaviour.

One of the women scheduled to share her narrative at the trial is Kelsey Harbert, who previously clashed with the “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story” actor for touching her without her consent at a New York City bar in 2019.

Satellite Award Winner Avoids Jail Time By Taking Plea Deal In Groping Case

Months before successfully ending his rape trial with a settlement, the “Jerry Maguire” actor made headlines for escaping prison after groping Kelsey Herbert’s breasts without her consent. The TV personality pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge last April.

Following his guilty plea, the father of three reportedly apologized to the courtroom for “ever making anyone feel inappropriately touched.” The 55-year-old man avoided jail time by fulfilling the terms of a plea deal in which he had to undergo six months of counseling without an arrest.

That means the “Boat Trip” star’s harassment charges will remain on his record while the criminal charges are expunged. Herbert, the woman who accused Gooding of groping her, voiced her grievances about the development.

“This plea deal feels like a misstep. After three long years of trying to hold Mr. Gooding accountable for touching my breast without my consent, to have my day in court taken away from me is more frustrating than words,” lamented the victim.

Herbert’s attorney, Gloria Allred, shared similar sentiments, calling the plea deal an “insult” to her client and other women who have accused the Hollywood veteran of harassment. The lawyer said it was a “prosecution gift to a celebrity who did not deserve such a result.”
