A Washington DC CVS store is closing its doors after a gang of sticky-fingered teenagers routinely ransacked the store, leaving empty shelves.
According to Fox affiliate WTTG-TV, a pharmacy in Washington DC’s Columbia Heights neighborhood will close on February 29.
The closure comes months after video surfaced in October 2023 of rows upon rows of empty shelves at a CVS store after a group of teenage shoplifters ransacked the store.
The rampant theft has become so bad at CVS locations that customers have begun shopping at other locations for necessities.
“It makes me not want to shop there to be honest. I just go in there and get my prescription and then when I need something else, I go somewhere else because there’s nothing to get it,” CVS customer Ilana Miller told WTTG-TV.
According to staff who work there, 45 or more children regularly go to the store to steal chips and drinks before school, after school, and late at night.

CVS employees claimed that the teenage thieves knew when new deliveries were coming in and when it was best to target stores.
Fox 5 was told that “street vendors are allegedly paying people to come in and steal items so they can resell them.” The station reported that they saw street vendors selling items that once filled the now-empty shelves of pharmacies.
They found people selling toothbrushes, men’s and women’s body wash, car freshener, and laundry and cleaning supplies along the street just steps away from CVS.

The report shows 3,470 robberies occurred in 2023.
