Damar Hamlin Steps Out Amid Recovery To Support The Buffalo Bills

Damar Hamlin has shown support for his team amid his recovery.

The road to a full recovery has been slow but impressive for the Buffalo Bills safety, who sent his teammates and fans into a panic after suffering a heart attack and collapsing during a game nearly a month ago. Since then, he has been confined to the walls of the Buffalo General Medical Center/Gate Vascular Institute.

So when he gets a chance to return to the public, his first point of call will be for Sunday’s playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team’s game was already underway before Hamlin’s fall, causing it to be postponed by the NFL.

Damar Hamlin’s Presence Is Not A Good Luck Charm For Buffalo Bills Teammates

Hamlin’s remarkable recovery was on display for all to see when he arrived at the Western New York field just before the playoffs began. His presence was such a welcome development that he was treated as a special guest of honor by the Bills.

In footage released before the game, the 24-year-old was seen arriving at Buffalo’s facility, led by security to the team’s locker room. Hamlin had his head down, dark sunglasses on, and his hood up as he hurried from the security cart to the locker room.

His mother, Nina, and younger brother, Damir, are not far behind like them join he’s in the dressing room, wearing their number 3 jersey. Even though Hamlin wasn’t on the field, his presence in the stadium couldn’t be missed thanks to fans – known as the “Bills Mafia” – holding up “welcome” signs.

The injured safety appeared to be enjoying the show from a luxury hotel suite at Highmark Stadium. One more clips of ESPN highlighted him and his family in a room through a heavy snowfall before showing a fan holding a sign, “Where else would you rather…do it for #3.”

“It was wonderful cheering and joy. What a team player, watching the game. Like hamlin,” replied one under the tweet. A second fan added, “Yes. So happy to see it all over the snow,” and a third tweeted:

“Me personally, if I was a player on the Bills team and I knew Damar was there watching, I would be inspired to win this game or try to put my foot behind the Bengals. That’s just me.”

Unfortunately, Hamlin’s teammates were uninspired to win the game, losing to the Bengals despite home field advantage and his presence. According to CNN, Joe Burrow’s touchdown pass gave the Bengals an early 14-0 lead. Cincinnati led 17-7 at halftime, comfortably holding on to a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter.

With the Bills falling to the Bengals 27-10, the latter were billed to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship game. The Bengals will host the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, January 29, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 pm ET.

University of Pittsburgh Alum Still Facing Tough Road Amidst Recovery

Although he only spent nine days in two hospitals, The Blast notes that Hamlin still has a long road to recovery. Sharing details of his continued progress, his longtime friend, Jordan Rooney, revealed that the athlete “still needs oxygen” along with regular visits to the hospital to monitor his heart.

The visit will help him lose his easy breath, which Rooney mentioned when he said, “He’s visited the team a few times, but he’s still easy to turn around.” Hamlin’s business partner also noted that his friend has maintained an “upbeat and positive” attitude during this period and is more than determined to “get through it.”

Others who are proud of the football player’s health are his teammate Dion Dawkins and coach Sean McDermott. After the Bills coach updated press conference attendees that Hamlin was at the team facility almost every day, Dawkins added:

“The appearance, like walking around here, it’s a positive thing, and [it’s nice] to see Three [Hamlin’s jersey number] just smile and just wave and just put his heart down and keep pushing him.”

The Bills offense further referred to his recovering teammates as “a bubble of positive energy that just floats around the facility.”
