Dan began his music career in Victoria, Canada, where he was a member of various bands, including Atlas Strategic. He has worked on projects with Spoon vocalist Britt Daniel, including Handsome Fus and Divine Fits. Dan and singer John Pollard co-founded British Columbia band Atlas Strategic in 2000, and their first album Rapture, Ye Minions was subsequently released.
Boeckner and her then-fiancé Alexei Perry formed Handsome Furs in 2005. Plague Park released their first album in 2007 after signing to Sub Pop Records.
