‘Dangerous’ Rottweiler may be euthanized after mauling owner

A woman who suffered serious injuries after she was mauled by her two pet Rottweilers could soon have her second dog euthanized after the local council deemed the animals “dangerous”.

Nikita Piil, 31, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital on September 16 with injuries to her arms and legs after being attacked by her dogs, Bronx and Harlem.

His family said he has since undergone several surgeries and is battling a bacterial infection.

Seven-year-old Bronx was killed after police were required to shoot the dog when a taser failed.

But first responders managed to lock Harlem in the garage at the time of the attack.

Following the attack, the City of Cockburn launched an investigation into the incident.

Head of security services and community ranger Michael Emery said the seized dog had been declared “dangerous”.

The dog is still being housed at an animal management facility.

“Ms Piil, or her representative, has until Saturday … to comply with national requirements for keeping dangerous dogs,” Mr Emery said in a statement.

“If Ms. Piil cannot comply, the city will have no choice but to destroy the dog, after any appeal period.”

There were complaints made about the dog last year for “excessive barking” but there were no reports of attacks before the violent incident.

In a social media post in 2020, Ms Piil referred to the dogs as her “babies”.

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $18,000 to cover the cost of Ms. Piil’s medical bills.

His family said he was “caught in the crossfire calming his dog” when he was attacked.

“We’ve come close to losing our precious girl a few times … but as you all know, Nikita is our little fighter,” they said.
