Late last year, a Los Angeles court found Masterson guilty of two of the three counts of rape he pleaded guilty to in 2020.

The comedy star is accused of having non-consensual intercourse with his victim between 2001 and 2003, at the height of his fame on the Fox network sitcom.

As part of her testimony, the woman said Masterson drugged her with a drink she gave him when they visited his Hollywood home. After taking the drink, they become unsteady or passed out before he violently commits the act.

“When you raped me, you stole from me,” said one of the victims as he stood at the scene, per Caretaker. “That’s rape, soul theft. You are pathetic, disturbed, and downright violent. The world is better with you in prison.”

Another victim said that Masterson did not show “the slightest remorse for the pain he caused.” He added, “I know he is in prison for the safety of all the women he meets. I am very sorry, and I am very disappointed. I wish I had reported it to the police sooner.”

All of Masterson’s victims, including the actor himself, were affiliated with the Church of Scientology. They claim that when they reported the incident to the church around the time it happened, the church turned on them and swept them under the rug.

Reportedly, the victims were not only warned not to go to the police to report Masterson, a prominent member but were also told that they were not raped. They were thoroughly subjected to ethics programs and experienced rejection from community members, discouraging them from addressing the matter until decades later.

Following the court’s decision, the church issued a statement denying the accusation. The statement claimed that “testimony and descriptions of Scientology beliefs” presented during the trial were considered “uniformly false.”

The statement further read, “The Church has no policy that prohibits or discourages members from reporting the criminal conduct of anyone – Scientist or not – to law enforcement.”
