Lim’s health was a concern throughout his playing career as he suffered various injuries from on-court pranks. However, on the evening of November 28, 2014, he was brought to the hospital unconscious after collapsing just minutes after leaving the PBA Legends exhibition game at the Ynares Center in Pasig. After the coma, medical personnel admitted him to the Medical City Intensive Care Unit before transferring him to the Intermediate Care Unit.
On January 14, 2015, he awoke from his coma and was sent home, where he continues to undergo treatment and rehabilitation. after many years, Samboy was cared for by a team of medical professionals working around the clock. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 61 on December 23, 2023.
His family reported his death on Lim’s official Facebook page.
