The celebrity hairstylist and her trainer in hairstyling course ‘Jasbir Arora’ was impressed with her work and asked her to work as his assistant. When Darshan was in the third month of his course, Jasbir offered him a job at one of his salons in Indore. During an interview, while sharing the incident, Darshan said,
Salary is ₹3500! I’m 16 years old. I just passed day 12! But I got bored with that job and came back to Pune. There one day I got a call from one of my seniors who casually invited me to come and visit him in Mumbai where I had got a job in a cool salon and was shooting for a Bollywood film. The word ‘shoot’ intrigued me. My connection to the world outside my town was through television and film. And he said he shot with Sanjay Dutt. So I landed on the Musafir set.”
He then started working at Hakim’s Aalim, Versova, Mumbai, Maharashtra, as a hairdresser in 2003. He worked there for almost 10 years and after quitting, he set up ‘D Shave,’ a barber shop in Mumbai. He then got an offer to work for Indian actor Salman Khan, and after working with him for almost five years, he left the job. During the interview, she shared that her life was not easy after leaving her job with Salman. He said,
After leaving Bhai, I went through a very bad phase where nothing worked. I started a salon that I had to close within a year. I was 22 years old then. I had no money, lived at home and most days I would starve. But going back wasn’t an option because I couldn’t go to him as a failure. During those four years, before I landed Ram-Leela, I had hit rock bottom. I am a simple small town Marathi guy, I don’t speak English well, people even make fun of my name.”
He later worked as a hairstylist for various Indian actors such as Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Saif Ali Khan, and Anil Kapoor. He came into limelight after being appointed as Ranveer Singh’s chief hair stylist. He has recreated the look of Ranveer Singh in various Hindi films such as ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ (2013), ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015), ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015), and ’83’ (2021).
His work in the Hindi film ’83 was much appreciated by industry veterans where he imitated the look of legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev on Ranveer Singh. In an interview, while talking about creating the look, she said,
The biggest compliment I get from industry veterans is, ‘You’ve nailed it!’ The whole experience was overwhelming, to say the least, especially because it’s easier to work from someone’s imagination but to replicate something that’s part of everyone’s imagination just adds that extra pressure.”
He added,
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of such a gigantic and historic project. Kabir sir gave me a very simple brief during our first meeting — to imitate ‘hair’. We had to go through tons of Kapil sir’s pictures to get every curve and wave just right. We went through almost four to five look tests to achieve the exact ‘Kapil Dev look’. Then there’s his classic mustache. I have to be very precise about how much to trim, and that really comes down to slowly removing one strand of hair to make sure we get the right look.”
Darshan has also worked for several reality TV shows as a hairstylist and has led the team for the ‘Loreal Color trophy’ hairdressing competition.

It’s not easy to get the job done wearing all that. There’s no film shooting on the floor and there’s no big crossover for film technicians in TV and Commercials.”
He continued,
No one expected the unprecedented time. It was easy at first but I was in the loop with the situation and adapted quickly. I have been a workaholic all my life and especially the last eight years with Ranveer Singh have been full of shoots and lots of shoots. So I don’t have that kind of break. This gives me time to relax a bit. It has healed my mind and body and allowed me to reconnect with my loved ones. Like every single guy, cooking is my new hobby and I never knew I could do it (of course with mom on video call guiding me the whole time). “
