They don’t laugh.
Comedian Dave Chappelle criticized the United States for supporting Israel’s “war crimes” against Palestinians during a live performance in Boston Thursday, prompting some audience members to walk out, according to reports.
The controversial comic made the remarks during a show at TD Garden on Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Chappelle condemned the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel that left about 1,400 Israelis dead — but denounced what he claimed were Israeli war crimes in Gaza, sparking some pushback from the public, people in attendance told the media.
The brouhaha began when an audience member told Chappelle to “shut up” after he said he didn’t think people should lose their jobs for supporting the Palestinians, according to the Journal.
Chappelle, in response, criticized the Israeli government’s decision to cut off food, water and electricity to Gaza.
Some of Chappelle’s scheduled events list an Oct. 19 show at the TD Garden in Boston.
He also accused Israel of killing innocent civilians and committing war crimes, according to the report.
More than 4,300 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict as the Israel Defense Forces relentlessly pound the area with more than 6,000 bombs. The dead included women and children, according to Palestinian authorities.
Other attendees cheered and shouted “Free Palestine!” while others responded “What about Hamas?!”, witnesses told the Journal.
Some of the audience left after the raucous moment.

Towards the end of the show, Chappelle reportedly said that two wrongs don’t make a right, referring to the Hamas attack and the subsequent Israeli military response.
Chappelle’s spokesperson said the comedian “denied being in Boston” that night – even though the show was listed among his dates by ticket outlets.
