Supermodel Iman, known for her incredible runway career, has shared how her late husband, David Bowie, was instrumental in boosting her confidence to create her own cosmetics line.
Faith, who shares daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones, 22, with the rock star, opened up about the secret during a recent interview.
She also reflects on what inspired her to start the brand when she was at the height of her modeling career.

Faith Says David Bowie Inspired Her To Start Her Brand

In a recent interview with NET-A-PORTER’s digital titles, PORTERthe 67-year-old Somali-American model and actress discusses the inspiration behind her makeup brand, Iman Cosmetics.
Per Daily Mail, he reflects on the incident that brought the idea of the brand to his mind, sharing that it happened during a Vogue filming while she was still active in modeling.
At that time, Iman found herself frustrated when the makeup artist used a foundation that made her skin look “gray” and mismatched.
The incident later made her realize that there is still a lack in the make-up industry of products suitable for people of color.
With the help of her late husband, David Bowie, Iman started her makeup business in 1994, which has grown into the huge brand it is today.

In a previous interview with People magazineFaith shared that she fell in love with Bowie “at first sight.”
However, it would take some time before the model got her emotional fill of the late rock star.
“It took me a few months but I got there,” said the model, who met Bowie through a blind date set up by hairdresser Teddy Antolin, per Daily Mail. “I know him as David Jones, his real name, and not a rock star.”
And while Bowie is no longer on earth with us, his impact on Faith lives on through his brand.
“He actually gave me the confidence to do Iman Cosmetics,” said Iman PORTER. “He asked, ‘What are you afraid of?’ I don’t know if I can do it and [was worried] about failure. He said, ‘What if it fails?’ He was sure I would regret not doing it.”
Faith Is Ticked In A New Photoshoot
Iman’s interview with the publication also includes a shoot that sees her donning a series of delicate outfits, all of which capture her incredible physique and impeccable modeling skills.
In one shot, the sex worker wears a head-to-toe dark green dress. On top of the outfit, she wore a darker colored cape coat and posed seductively for the camera.
The second picture shows Iman wearing what appears to be a white dress that also completely covers her body. She paired it with a long black coat, giving it a monochromatic vibe.
Iman also wears an all-black outfit consisting of an inner blouse, a plain long coat and puffy trousers. For the shoot, she wore her hair loose in a full curl, putting her dazzling earrings on display.

While the shoot may have many imagining what it would be like if Iman walked the runway again, the model dismissed any possibility of that happening.
“I’ve never been good at doing three or four things at once. I have worked with all the designers, but I haven’t attended a fashion show since 1989,” said Iman when asked if she planned to make a comeback.
He added, per Daily Mail, “I don’t want to go back, I want to go forward.”
Since then, Iman’s makeup venture has grown to include a range of perfumes. In 2021, she released her first fragrance, Love Memoir, in collaboration with Batallure Beauty.
At the time, she revealed that the new scent was inspired by her romance with Bowie, who died of liver cancer aged 69 in 2016.
