DC bar toasts to NY Republican’s historic expulsion with new cocktail: ‘Adios Santos’

It’s not Long Island iced tea lying, but a bar in Washington, DC is celebrating George Santos’ ouster from the House of Representatives with a new cocktail named after the disgraced New York Republican.

“Adios Santos” – a grapefruit margarita – was served for $10 all weekend at Sticky Fingers Diner, on the District’s H Street Corridor, just a few blocks from where 311 House lawmakers voted to oust their former 35-year-old colleague on Friday.

“Visitors can toast to Congress agreeing to something for a change,” Doron Petersan, founder of a vegan restaurant and bar, told the Hill.

“To help make grift a gift,” government ethics watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington will receive $1 for every “Adios Santos” sold, the eatery said in an Instagram post revealing the delicious-looking dish garnished with lime. orange drink.

Santos, only the sixth member of the House ever to be removed, was impeached a little more than a year after his 2022 midterm election victory in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

Santos admitted to The Post last December — before he was sworn into office — that he fabricated his education, work history and told voters he was “Jewish” despite being Catholic.

A House Ethics Committee investigation and a Justice Department criminal investigation into his campaign finances ensued.

In October, Santos was indicted on a 23-count federal indictment for allegedly laundering his campaign money and defrauding donors. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Calls for his removal increased the following month when the ethics panel released its scathing report on Santos.

The report concluded that the Long Island lawmaker “blatantly stole” from campaign funds and made large expenditures with donor money, including subscriptions to OnlyFans, purchases of Botox, trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and shopping at luxury brand Hermés.

Santos, who previously avoided two votes to impeach him, served 328 days in the House and introduced 40 pieces of legislation during his tenure, none of which made it out of committee.

Only one of his bills, the “Defund the CCP On Campus Act of 2023,” co-sponsored by Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), has the support of colleagues.
